The History of Wiser Wealth Management

Wiser Wealth Management was founded with a clear mission: to do the right thing and make a positive impact on people’s lives. President of Wiser, Casey Smith, had a disappointing start in the finance industry, where he felt pressured to sell products that didn’t align with his values. After leaving that job, he pursued an aviation career and became a commercial pilot. Driven by his passion for integrity and helping others, Casey eventually found his true calling in establishing Wiser Wealth Management.

From Commercial Pilot to Financial Advisor

Casey’s background as an airline pilot, combined with his deep understanding of risk management, uniquely positioned him for success in the financial industry. After losing his job following the 9/11 attacks, he joined a company in Maine and used his free time to pursue his passion for fee-only financial planning. His involvement in his union’s retirement and insurance committee further fueled this passion, eventually leading him to purchase Wiser. Under his leadership, the firm grew from a small one-room operation into a successful business. By 2014, Casey decided to leave his aviation career behind and fully commit his time to Wiser.

Building Trust with Clients

Flat-fee financial planning, initially designed for airline pilots, has evolved into an effective way for anyone to experience Wiser Wealth Management’s services and build trust before committing to asset management. At Wiser, the emphasis is on providing sound financial advice rather than selling products. By understanding clients’ risk tolerance and staying informed about current market trends, Wiser offers tailored guidance that helps clients remain focused on their long-term goals. Despite political and economic uncertainties, the Wiser team is dedicated to helping clients navigate market volatility and achieve lasting financial success without letting short-term market fluctuations dictate their emotions.

Wealth Management Career Advice

Career advice for those entering the wealth management industry is clear: find a mission you believe in, avoid sales-driven roles, and focus on obtaining real-world knowledge, such as a CFP® certification. Work-life balance, while important, is often secondary to the passion and commitment required to succeed in this field.
